Summer End Special Tips to know As summer is quickly coming to an end and with the weather cooling off, now is the best time to consider fall /winter fertilization for your lawn. This is the most important time to feed your lawn with nutrients as your lawn goes into a dorment stage. Before spring arrives, your lawn will need good nutrients to give it that extra boost to stay healthy and look great. Now is the best time to continue regular watering for your trees and shrubs. Good moisture in the ground will help ensure the root ball stays protected during the winter months keeping it frozen especially with the chinook weather which may cause premature blooming. Durning the summer heat, ensure your lawn is cut no lower than 3" to help retain moisture through the day. When possible, mulch your clippings back into your lawn to help retain moisture. As the clippings decompose, vital nutrients are released back into your lawn. The clipping and longer lawn will also naturally help choke out any unwanted weeds in your lawn. The best time to water you lawn is early in the morning to soak into the roots before the hot sun hits. This helps keep the roots deep into the lawn and prevents them from growing shallow. Early morning watering will alo reduce unwanted fungus like mushrooms that can develop with late evening watering. |
